In Brazil, famed for its tiny bikinis and carefree attitude, a university student has been expelled for wearing a short outfit she wore on campus. The University said it had expelled the student, Geysi Arruda, 20, for "flagrant disrespect of ethical principles, academic dignity and morality," in a statement published in some Sunday newspapers.
Her dress, a mid-thigh length red dress sparked student protests on October 22 in the University Campus.
The university's legal advisor said that Arruda “always liked to provoke boys, the problem was not with her clothes, but the way she acts, talks, crosses her legs, and walks.”
Comments on Brazilian websites pointed out the irony of the hatred directed at Arruda by fellow students in a nation obsessed with physical beauty and said the university's actions were unfair.
"Pure hypocrisy ... Once February and the Carnival comes round everyone will be naked and now they are behaving like this", said one comment.
In the latest turn of events University has backtracked on their widely publicized position reversing their decision to expel Arruda.
But is there more to this story than how a student crosses her legs?
