Biggest fire in India: Oil depot in fire

Jaipur is witnessing something it has never seen in ages. A fire spread over 2-3 kms, flames as high as 70 mts and visible from 15 kms. Such is the scene at the site of Indian oil depot in Jaipur where a fire broke out yesterday.

A fire broke out in the Oil depot in Jaipur's Sitapura industrial area during the transferring of the fuel. The depot houses 11 oil storage tanks 4 for diesel, 5 for petrol and rest for kerosene. A loud blast was heard at about 7:30 pm last night and since then a huge flame is being seen in the south of Jaipur. More blasts were heard at the site as the fire spread to other oil tankers.

The administration and fire fighters are waiting helplessly for the fuel to burn off and the fire subsides so that they can enter the affected area and start the fire fighting procedures. The area in around 5 km radius is being evacuated which has around 10 colleges and many industries.

According to latest reports the fire is still burning and the efforts are on to save the nearby oil depots and underground gas pipe line.
